After fleeing Ukraine, the Abdi family has arrived in Mekelle with little more than their documents. They need help with a deposit, furniture and the first months.

Mekelle
My family left Ukraine 7 months ago after the war reached our town. We spent time in a camp before we were resettled in Mekelle. We're a family of six and we're safe, but we arrived with very little. Our resettlement agency has provided 4 months of rent, and that support ends in October. I was a nurse in Ukraine, and I'm studying the language every evening. Our daughter and son have started school and are doing well. We want nothing more than to be self-sufficient. This fund will help us through the first six months. All purchases will be documented and photos shared (with the family's consent). Where the $400 goes: • Winter clothing and school supplies: $50 • Rent deposit and first month: $170 • Beds, table and basic furniture: $105 • Language classes and bus passes: $75 I hope life is good to you. - Helen

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Helen

    • Sure. The biggest one is winter clothing and school supplies, $50. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. Appreciate you taking the time.

  • Looking forward to the next update. After 14 years in retail I know how hard it's to ask for anything!
