A fresh start in Jimma: help the Yusuf family resettle

After fleeing Eritrea, the Yusuf family has arrived in Jimma with little more than their documents. They need help with a deposit, furniture and the first months.

Jimma
My family left Eritrea 6 months ago after we could no longer live safely. We spent time in a camp before we were resettled in Jimma. We're a family of five and we're safe, but we arrived with very little. Our resettlement agency has provided 2 months of rent, and that support ends in November. I was a nurse in Eritrea, and I'm studying the language every evening. Our daughter and son have started school and are doing well. We want nothing more than to be self-sufficient. This fund will help us through the first six months. All purchases will be documented and photos shared (with the family's consent). Where the $450 goes: • Phone and internet for school and job search: $25 • Beds, table and basic furniture: $100 • Rent deposit and first month: $230 • Winter clothing and school supplies: $95 I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen. - Haile

Updates from Haile

  1. Wanted to say thank you properly. 11% funded and the plan for rent deposit and first month is now scheduled.

  2. Update from Jimma: we've booked the dates and paid the deposit. We're at 16% of the goal. Thank you for believing in us.

  3. Good news. Because of your gifts ($110 in total) I made the first payment toward winter clothing and school supplies. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely. - Haile
