My family left Eritrea 14 months ago after the war reached our town. We spent time in a camp before we were resettled in Jimma. We're a family of eight and we're safe, but we arrived with very little.
Our resettlement agency has provided 4 months of rent, and that support ends in December.
I was a nurse in Eritrea, and I'm studying the language every evening. Our daughter and son have started school and are doing well.
We want nothing more than to be self-sufficient. This fund will help us through the first six months.
Funds are managed by a local church-run settlement group, a registered organization, which pays the landlord and suppliers on the family's behalf.
Where the $400 goes:
• Phone and internet for school and job search: $35
• Language classes and bus passes: $40
• Beds, table and basic furniture: $135
• Rent deposit and first month: $190

Everything on the list is an amount I've been quoted or invoiced. phone and internet for school and job search comes first ($35) and I'll update the page as each thing gets paid. I'll keep the page updated.
