A fresh start in Corpus Christi: help the Abdi family resettle

After fleeing Ethiopia, the Abdi family has arrived in Corpus Christi with little more than their documents. They need help with a deposit, furniture and the first months.

Corpus Christi
My family left Ethiopia 10 months ago after we could no longer live safely. We spent time in a camp before we were resettled in Corpus Christi. We're a family of seven and we're safe, but we arrived with very little. Our resettlement agency has provided 2 months of rent, and that support ends in November. I was a shopkeeper in Ethiopia, and I'm studying the language every evening. Our daughter and son have started school and are doing well. We want nothing more than to be self-sufficient. This fund will help us through the first six months. Funds are managed by the Corpus Christi Welcome Table charity, a registered organization, which pays the landlord and suppliers on the family's behalf. Where the $2,150 goes: • Winter clothing and school supplies: $510 • Rent deposit and first month: $1,250 • Language classes and bus passes: $390 Thanks for being kind about this.

  • Stay strong. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. I went through something like this 3 years ago and strangers helped me out. Thinking of Corpus Christi
