Johannesburg
For three years the neighborhood has asked for a free library and reading room. This year a group of 25 volunteers, including two retired carpenters, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the old Jacaranda bus depot, but no funding. We have received donated timber, and the remaining cost is $800. It will serve about 393 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in October and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered. Where the $800 goes: • Materials: $520 • Permits and inspections: $25 • Safety equipment and signage: $120 • Tools hire and delivery: $135 I hope life is good to you.
