Embakasi

For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a free library and reading room. This year a group of 20 volunteers, including the neighborhood football club, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Jacaranda community hall, but no funding. We have received donated a pump, and the remaining cost is $500. It will serve about 437 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered. Where the $500 goes: • Materials: $360 • Safety equipment and signage: $45 • Tools hire and delivery: $95 If you're reading this, thank you. - Ochieng

sending strength, Ochieng. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Don't be hard on yourself for asking. Love from Cardiff.
