A free library and reading room for the Acacia community hall: help our neighbors in São Paulo
Volunteers in São Paulo are raising $500 for a free library and reading room at the Acacia community hall.
🇧🇷 São Paulo, Brazil1,980 views
For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a free library and reading room. This year a group of 11 volunteers, including a group of teenagers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Acacia community hall, but no funding.
We have received donated paint, and the remaining cost is $500.
It will serve about 593 people, including young people who have nowhere safe to play. We'll hold a build day in April and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $500 goes:
• Materials: $270
• Safety equipment and signage: $135
• Permits and inspections: $95
Thank you for reading my story.

Hang in there. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Our whole street has been following this since the weekend. Take care
