For ten years the neighborhood has asked for a free library and reading room. This year a group of 14 volunteers, including local mothers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Harmony Primary School, but no funding. We have received donated timber, and the remaining cost is $100. It will serve about 152 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in October and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered. Where the $100 goes: • Permits and inspections: $15 • Safety equipment and signage: $45 • Tools hire and delivery: $40 I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support. - Nida

  • Is permits and inspections the biggest cost or is there more coming?

It's all in the list in the story. permits and inspections is the big one at $15, I'll post a receipt when it's paid. Fair thing to want to know.

So sorry you're going through this, Nida. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Our whole street has been following this since the weekend. Greetings from Üsküdar.

Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. Take care

        • Sending good thoughts, Nida. Hope you get there. After 16 years in retail I know how hard it's to ask for anything.

          • Stay strong. Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. My daughter saw me on my phone and now she wants to give her pocket money. All the best.
