A free library and reading room for Cedar Park: help our neighbors in San Diego
A community-led a free library and reading room at Cedar Park that will serve 444 neighbors.

For five years the neighborhood has asked for a free library and reading room. This year a group of 21 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Cedar Park, but no funding.
We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $640, and the remaining cost is $1,000.
It will serve about 444 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in October and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $1,000 goes:
• Permits and inspections: $230
• Safety equipment and signage: $270
• Tools hire and delivery: $500

Thanks for sharing this. More neighborhoods should do this. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. Thinking of San Diego.
