A free library and reading room: a volunteer-led effort in San Diego
Volunteers in San Diego are raising $3,400 for a free library and reading room at the Maple health centre yard.
🇺🇸 San Diego, California, United States2,121 views
For ten years the neighborhood has asked for a free library and reading room. This year a group of 19 volunteers, including two retired carpenters, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Maple health centre yard, but no funding.
We have received donated a pump, and the remaining cost is $3,400.
It will serve about 157 people, including elderly neighbors living alone. We'll hold a build day in May and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $3,400 goes:
• Materials: $2,650
• Safety equipment and signage: $195
• Tools hire and delivery: $555
Thanks for being kind about this.

it takes guts to ask. Well done. Put this on a community board in Greensboro this morning.
praying for you, Satish. I hope things turn around soon. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry.
