A free library and reading room: a volunteer-led effort in Mississauga
Volunteers in Mississauga are raising $2,450 for a free library and reading room at the old Union bus depot.

For three years the neighborhood has asked for a free library and reading room. This year a group of 29 volunteers, including two retired carpenters, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the old Union bus depot, but no funding.
We have received donated paint, and the remaining cost is $2,450.
It will serve about 345 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in March and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $2,450 goes:
• Materials: $1,650
• Permits and inspections: $220
• Safety equipment and signage: $270
• Tools hire and delivery: $310
If you can't give, please share this page. It does reach people.

sending good thoughts, Samantha. It takes guts to ask. Well done. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. Blessings.
