I coordinate donations at the Acacia Primary School in Johannesburg. Every year around this time we hear from families who have nothing warm for their children, and this year demand has more than doubled.
We're collecting clean, gently used or new coats, boots, hats, gloves and scarves in sizes 4-12. If you're in Johannesburg, we can arrange a pick-up or you can drop things at the Acacia Primary School on Wednesday between 9am and 4pm.
If you're elsewhere, you may offer to sponsor a coat through a local shop - message in the comments and we can coordinate.
Items go to families directly and the rest to the the Acacia Primary School clothing bank, which is open to everyone.
I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.

So sorry you're going through this. Hope you get there. We're a small family in Christchurch but we're thinking of you. Take care.
hang in there. Your post was clear and honest. I hope August is when things finally get easier.
a colleague of mine might know someone for this in Gauteng. I'll ask around and let you know.
Sending good thoughts, Gerhard. Hope you get there!
Thanks for sharing this. Shared this with my family. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it. Blessings
Thanks for sharing this, Gerhard. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. Wish I lived closer to San Antonio so I could bring a meal.
so sorry you're going through this, Gerhard. Hope you get there. My cousin had a similar thing happen so this one hit home. Take care.
Thinking of you, Gerhard. Hope you get there. After 29 years in hospitality I know how hard it's to ask for anything. God bless
