A free library and reading room: a volunteer-led effort in Maringá
We have the land, the volunteers and the plan for a free library and reading room - we need $850 for materials.
🇧🇷 Paraná, Brazil94 views
For five years the neighborhood has asked for a free library and reading room. This year a group of 28 volunteers, including the neighborhood football club, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Baobab vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated soil and plants, and the remaining cost is $850.
It will serve about 244 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $850 goes:
• Materials: $480
• Permits and inspections: $80
• Safety equipment and signage: $135
• Tools hire and delivery: $155
Please ask me anything in the questions section. I'll answer honestly and quickly.

praying for you. This could happen to any of us. I'll check back for the next update. Blessings.
Stay strong, Eduardo. This could happen to any of us. Greetings from San Diego
Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. After 17 years in teaching I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Love from Jakarta.
I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. I'm in hospitality myself and wanted you to know we're cheering for you. Thinking of Maringá.
Rooting for you, Eduardo. It takes guts to ask. Well done. All the best.
