A free library and reading room: a volunteer-led effort in Chicago
Volunteers in Chicago are raising $3,100 for a free library and reading room at the Liberty community hall.

For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a free library and reading room. This year a group of 22 volunteers, including the neighborhood football club, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Liberty community hall, but no funding.
We have received donated timber, and the remaining cost is $3,100.
It will serve about 564 people, including elderly neighbors living alone. We'll hold a build day in April and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $3,100 goes:
• Materials: $2,100
• Permits and inspections: $170
• Safety equipment and signage: $400
• Tools hire and delivery: $430
I hope life is good to you.

Take care, Samuel. Shared it with a few friends. Take care.
good luck, Samuel. More neighborhoods should do this. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it. Take care
