A craniotomy for Tong: covering what insurance won't
After a large ovarian cyst, Tong was cleared for a craniotomy, but the bill is more than we can manage.

Tong was diagnosed with a large ovarian cyst in February. The surgeon at Fort Worth Orthopedic Institute recommended a craniotomy, and She is scheduled for April. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $7,750, and after what the government subsidy will pay we're still $6,200 short.
my mother has been in and out of Fort Worth Orthopedic Institute since February. The doctors say a large ovarian cyst will get worse without a craniotomy. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $7,750 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Tong struggles with daily life and can't drive. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
The recovery period is expected to take about 5 weeks. During that time Tong won't be able to drive, so the costs keep growing.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.
Where the $6,200 goes:
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $3,600
• Hospital stay (4 nights): $1,550
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $310
• Post-operative medication: $160
• Physiotherapy sessions: $400
• Travel and lodging for the family: $180
Thank you so much.

how is Tong doing now?
hang in there, Wei. Wishing Tong a smooth procedure and a full recovery. I'll check back for the next update.
Hope things get better soon, Wei. Hope the doctors have good news. After 9 years in construction I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Blessings.
can I help in a way that isn't money? I'm near Fort Worth
Thank you. If you're in Fort Worth I'll say if something practical comes up. For now sharing this is great. Ask me anything else.
you're not alone. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. It's not much but it's yours. God bless!
