A craniotomy for Ronan: covering what insurance won't
After a benign brain tumor, Ronan was cleared for a craniotomy, but the bill is more than we can manage.

Ronan was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor in August. The surgeon at Cork General Hospital recommended a craniotomy, and He is scheduled for November. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $8,250, and after what the government subsidy will pay we're still $6,150 short.
my father has been in and out of Cork General Hospital since August. The doctors say a benign brain tumor will get worse without a craniotomy. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $8,250 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Ronan struggles with daily life and can't work a full shift. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Rehabilitation is expected to take about 8 weeks. During that time Ronan won't be able to work a full shift, so the costs keep growing.
The money goes straight to the treatment bills, and I'll share the invoices as they're paid so you can see exactly what your gift did.
Where the $6,150 goes:
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $2,500
• Hospital stay (2 nights): $2,100
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $600
• Post-operative medication: $300
• Physiotherapy sessions: $460
• Travel and lodging for the family: $190

Gave what I could, wish it was more. I'm in engineering myself and wanted you to know we're cheering for you. Thinking of Cork.
Thinking of you. It takes guts to ask. Well done. I'm in construction myself and wanted you to know we're cheering for you. Take care.
Keep going, Gerard. This could happen to any of us. Please keep us posted. Take care.
