A craniotomy for Mateo: covering what insurance won't
A scheduled a craniotomy in November is out of reach without help covering $800 of the cost.

Mateo was diagnosed with gallstones with repeated infections in August. The surgeon at Cartagena General Hospital recommended a craniotomy, and He is scheduled for November. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $1,350, and after what the public health scheme will pay we're still $800 short.
my husband has been in and out of Cartagena General Hospital since August. The doctors say gallstones with repeated infections will get worse without a craniotomy. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $1,350 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Mateo struggles with daily life and can't lift anything heavy. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
The recovery period is expected to take about 3 weeks. During that time Mateo won't be able to lift anything heavy, so the costs keep growing.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.
Where the $800 goes:
• Post-operative medication: $75
• Physiotherapy sessions: $145
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $95
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $485
