Luca was diagnosed with severe cataracts in both eyes in July. The surgeon at Tucson Community Hospital recommended a craniotomy, and He is scheduled for September. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $2,400, and after what the government subsidy will pay we're still $1,450 short. my father has been in and out of Tucson Community Hospital since July. The doctors say severe cataracts in both eyes will get worse without a craniotomy. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $2,400 is more than we can find. While we wait, Luca struggles with daily life and can't look after the children alone. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. The recovery period is expected to take about 4 weeks. During that time Luca won't be able to look after the children alone, so the costs keep growing. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $1,450 goes: • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $460 • Physiotherapy sessions: $520 • Travel and lodging for the family: $470 Ask me anything below before you decide. I'd rather you were sure. - Leo

  • Sending good thoughts. Looking forward to the next update. My husband and I read this together. All the best.

    • Take care. Hope the doctors have good news. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. Greetings from Baton Rouge.
