Ingrid was diagnosed with a cleft palate needing repair in June. The surgeon at São Paulo General Hospital recommended a craniotomy, and She is scheduled for August. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $3,000, and after what the public health scheme will pay we're still $2,400 short.
my mother has been in and out of São Paulo General Hospital since June. The doctors say a cleft palate needing repair will get worse without a craniotomy. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $3,000 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Ingrid struggles with daily life and can't stand for more than ten minutes. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Recovery is expected to take about 5 weeks. During that time Ingrid won't be able to stand for more than ten minutes, so the costs keep growing.
