A covered market stall space for the Unity vacant lot: help our neighbors in Colombo
Volunteers in Colombo are raising $300 for a covered market stall space at the Unity vacant lot.
Anywhere in the world305 views
For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a covered market stall space. This year a group of 14 volunteers, including two retired carpenters, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Unity vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated tools, and the remaining cost is $300.
It will serve about 320 people, including local farmers and market traders. We'll hold a build day in December and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $300 goes:
• Materials: $220
• Permits and inspections: $50
• Tools hire and delivery: $30
I hope life is good to you.

Hope you get there. I went through something like this 12 years ago and strangers helped me out.

Thanks for sharing this, Viraj. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. Our whole street has been following this since the weekend. God bless.
