A covered market stall space: a volunteer-led effort in Fresno
A community-led a covered market stall space at the Sycamore vacant lot that will serve 103 neighbors.
🇺🇸 Fresno, California, United States1,757 views
For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a covered market stall space. This year a group of 22 volunteers, including a group of teenagers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Sycamore vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated tools, and the remaining cost is $3,550.
It will serve about 103 people, including elderly neighbors living alone. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $3,550 goes:
• Materials: $2,900
• Permits and inspections: $100
• Safety equipment and signage: $240
• Tools hire and delivery: $310
I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.

Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. Thinking of Fresno
Thanks for sharing this, Brian. I hope things turn around soon. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it.
everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. Wish I lived closer to Lagos so I could bring a meal
