A community garden for the Unity vacant lot: help our neighbors in Cardiff

For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a community garden. This year a group of 17 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Unity vacant lot, but no funding. We have received donated timber, and the remaining cost is $3,550. It will serve about 444 people, including elderly neighbors living alone. We'll hold a build day in October and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly.
