A community garden for the Sycamore vacant lot: help our neighbors in Montréal

A community-led a community garden at the Sycamore vacant lot that will serve 134 neighbors.

For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a community garden. This year a group of 30 volunteers, including the neighborhood football club, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Sycamore vacant lot, but no funding. We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $1,050, and the remaining cost is $2,150. It will serve about 134 people, including elderly neighbors living alone. We'll hold a build day in March and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance. Where the $2,150 goes: • Tools hire and delivery: $350 • Safety equipment and signage: $350 • Materials: $1,450 Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.
