For three years the neighborhood has asked for a community garden. This year a group of 18 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the old Unity bus depot, but no funding.
We have received donated soil and plants, and the remaining cost is $400.
It will serve about 357 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in July and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $400 goes:
• Materials: $280
• Permits and inspections: $40
• Safety equipment and signage: $25
• Tools hire and delivery: $55
