A community garden: a volunteer-led effort in Vigo
We have the land, the volunteers and the plan for a community garden - we need $2,000 for materials.
🇪🇸 Galicia, Spain2,714 views
For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a community garden. This year a group of 28 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Freedom vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated timber, and the remaining cost is $2,000.
It will serve about 177 people, including local farmers and market traders. We'll hold a build day in February and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $2,000 goes:
• Materials: $1,350
• Permits and inspections: $230
• Safety equipment and signage: $210
• Tools hire and delivery: $210
Whatever you can give, even just sharing this page, means a lot.

Hope it all works out. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. My neighbor in Dharan donated after I showed her your page. Blessings.
can I help in a way that isn't money? I'm near Vigo
Thank you. If you're in Vigo I'll say if something practical comes up. For now sharing this is great.
Wishing you peace, Mercedes. This could happen to any of us. Thinking of Vigo.
Thanks for sharing this, Mercedes. Great idea, hope you get there. My cousin had a similar thing happen so this one hit home. Greetings from London.
Keep going, Mercedes. I hope things turn around soon. Sent it to 16 people at work. Love from Moscow.
