A community garden: a volunteer-led effort in Ottawa
We have the land, the volunteers and the plan for a community garden - we need $1,600 for materials.
Anywhere in the world1,025 views
For five years the neighborhood has asked for a community garden. This year a group of 14 volunteers, including two retired carpenters, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the old Cedar bus depot, but no funding.
We have received donated soil and plants, and the remaining cost is $1,600.
It will serve about 385 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in April and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $1,600 goes:
• Materials: $1,100
• Permits and inspections: $120
• Safety equipment and signage: $380
Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.
