For five years the neighborhood has asked for a community garden. This year a group of 26 volunteers, including two retired carpenters, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Cedar vacant lot, but no funding. We have received donated paint, and the remaining cost is $1,800. It will serve about 510 people, including local farmers and market traders. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered. Where the $1,800 goes: • Permits and inspections: $190 • Tools hire and delivery: $145 • Materials: $1,465 Thanks for being kind about this.

Best of luck, Peyton. More neighborhoods should do this. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like.
