A community garden: a volunteer-led effort in León
We have the land, the volunteers and the plan for a community garden - we need $300 for materials.
🇲🇽 Mexico1,253 views
For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a community garden. This year a group of 21 volunteers, including two retired carpenters, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the old Liberty bus depot, but no funding.
We have received donated tools, and the remaining cost is $300.
It will serve about 553 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in October and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $300 goes:
• Tools hire and delivery: $145
• Safety equipment and signage: $80
• Permits and inspections: $75
Thanks for being kind about this.
Updates from Álvaro
Quick update: $90 raised so far (30%). I met with the suppliers and confirmed the amounts. Receipts coming as soon as I have them.
Good news. Because of your gifts ($50 in total) the plan for tools hire and delivery is now scheduled. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

good luck. Hope you get there. Thinking of León.
Thinking of you and your family. Shared it with a few friends. My neighbor in Shubra donated after I showed her your page. Blessings.
