A community garden: a volunteer-led effort in Kisumu
We have the land, the volunteers and the plan for a community garden - we need $650 for materials.
Anywhere in the world924 views
For ten years the neighborhood has asked for a community garden. This year a group of 9 volunteers, including the parish youth group, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Liberty Primary School, but no funding.
We have received donated a pump, and the remaining cost is $650.
It will serve about 427 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in December and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $650 goes:
• Materials: $520
• Permits and inspections: $45
• Safety equipment and signage: $80
• Tools hire and delivery: $5
Glad we found this place.
