A community garden: a volunteer-led effort in Kano
A community-led a community garden at the old Unity bus depot that will serve 83 neighbors.

For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a community garden. This year a group of 25 volunteers, including the neighborhood football club, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the old Unity bus depot, but no funding.
We have received donated paint, and the remaining cost is $650.
It will serve about 83 people, including young people who have nowhere safe to play. We'll hold a build day in September and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $650 goes:
• Materials: $480
• Permits and inspections: $40
• Safety equipment and signage: $45
• Tools hire and delivery: $85
