George
For three years the neighborhood has asked for a community garden. This year a group of 20 volunteers, including two retired carpenters, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Acacia Park, but no funding. We have received donated timber, and the remaining cost is $300. It will serve about 276 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in October and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance. Where the $300 goes: • Tools hire and delivery: $115 • Permits and inspections: $90 • Safety equipment and signage: $95 I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support. - Busisiwe

  • Wishing you the best, Busisiwe. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. Thinking of George.

    • hang in there, Busisiwe. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier.

      • Hang in there. Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. Don't give up.

        • Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. Thinking of George.
