A community garden: a volunteer-led effort in Essen

For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a community garden. This year a group of 20 volunteers, including the neighborhood football club, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Union Park, but no funding. We have received donated paint, and the remaining cost is $600. It will serve about 556 people, including local farmers and market traders. We'll hold a build day in August and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance. Where the $600 goes: • Tools hire and delivery: $310 • Safety equipment and signage: $200 • Permits and inspections: $90 I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen.
