For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a community garden. This year a group of 24 volunteers, including the parish youth group, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Cedar health centre yard, but no funding. We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $720, and the remaining cost is $1,900. It will serve about 512 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in December and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance. Where the $1,900 goes: • Materials: $940 • Permits and inspections: $145 • Safety equipment and signage: $370 • Tools hire and delivery: $445 I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to.

  • Sending strength, David. Shared it with a few friends. After 25 years in hospitality I know how hard it's to ask for anything.
