For three years the neighborhood has asked for a community garden. This year a group of 21 volunteers, including a group of teenagers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Maple Park, but no funding. We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $470, and the remaining cost is $1,600. It will serve about 237 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in October and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered. Where the $1,600 goes: • Materials: $660 • Permits and inspections: $165 • Safety equipment and signage: $440 • Tools hire and delivery: $335 Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.

  • More neighborhoods should do this. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too
