A community fridge for the old Pioneer bus depot: help our neighbors in Melbourne
We have the land, the volunteers and the plan for a community fridge - we need $3,850 for materials.
🇦🇺 Melbourne, Victoria, Australia244 views
For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a community fridge. This year a group of 24 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the old Pioneer bus depot, but no funding.
We have received donated soil and plants, and the remaining cost is $3,850.
It will serve about 540 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $3,850 goes:
• Materials: $2,900
• Permits and inspections: $270
• Safety equipment and signage: $260
• Tools hire and delivery: $420
You're what makes this possible, and I'll never forget it.
