A community fridge for the Acacia vacant lot: help our neighbors in Cairo
Volunteers in Cairo are raising $100 for a community fridge at the Acacia vacant lot.
🇪🇬 Cairo, Cairo, Egypt342 views
For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a community fridge. This year a group of 9 volunteers, including two retired carpenters, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Acacia vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated paint, and the remaining cost is $100.
It will serve about 255 people, including elderly neighbors living alone. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $100 goes:
• Safety equipment and signage: $30
• Tools hire and delivery: $45
• Permits and inspections: $25
I hope life is good to you.

So sorry you're going through this. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. Greetings from Nottingham!
Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Nour.
thanks for sharing this. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. I have a 14 year old who wants to send good wishes too!
I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry. All the best
