A community fridge: a volunteer-led effort in Tacoma
Volunteers in Tacoma are raising $900 for a community fridge at Union Park.

For five years the neighborhood has asked for a community fridge. This year a group of 26 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Union Park, but no funding.
We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $800, and the remaining cost is $900.
It will serve about 381 people, including young people who have nowhere safe to play. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $900 goes:
• Permits and inspections: $350
• Tools hire and delivery: $390
• Safety equipment and signage: $160
Glad we found this place.

gave what I could, wish it was more. The breakdown of costs made it easy to trust. Greetings from Lucknow.
Keep going. More neighborhoods should do this. We're a small family in Mumbai but we're thinking of you. Love from Mumbai
