A community fridge: a volunteer-led effort in Richards Bay
A community-led a community fridge at the Acacia vacant lot that will serve 484 neighbors.

For five years the neighborhood has asked for a community fridge. This year a group of 20 volunteers, including the parish youth group, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Acacia vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $280, and the remaining cost is $500.
It will serve about 484 people, including local farmers and market traders. We'll hold a build day in April and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $500 goes:
• Tools hire and delivery: $135
• Permits and inspections: $65
• Materials: $300
Whatever you can give, even just sharing this page, means a lot.
