A community fridge: a volunteer-led effort in Mecca

For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a community fridge. This year a group of 15 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Cedar health centre yard, but no funding. We have received donated tools, and the remaining cost is $1,650. It will serve about 379 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in October and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance. Where the $1,650 goes: • Materials: $1,000 • Permits and inspections: $180 • Safety equipment and signage: $170 • Tools hire and delivery: $300 Whatever you can give, even just sharing this page, means a lot.
