A community fridge: a volunteer-led effort in Istanbul
A community-led a community fridge at the Freedom community hall that will serve 424 neighbors.

For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a community fridge. This year a group of 27 volunteers, including the neighborhood football club, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Freedom community hall, but no funding.
We have received donated timber, and the remaining cost is $800.
It will serve about 424 people, including young people who have nowhere safe to play. We'll hold a build day in June and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $800 goes:
• Materials: $590
• Permits and inspections: $50
• Safety equipment and signage: $80
• Tools hire and delivery: $80
I hope life is good to you.
