A community fridge: a volunteer-led effort in Cologne
Volunteers in Cologne are raising $3,500 for a community fridge at the Acacia vacant lot.
🇩🇪 Germany4,072 views
For five years the neighborhood has asked for a community fridge. This year a group of 24 volunteers, including the neighborhood football club, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Acacia vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $1,150, and the remaining cost is $3,500.
It will serve about 85 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in August and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $3,500 goes:
• Materials: $2,850
• Permits and inspections: $180
• Tools hire and delivery: $470
I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to.

Wishing you the best, Leon. Hope you get there. After 15 years in engineering I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Greetings from Saket.
