A community fridge: a volunteer-led effort in Austin
Volunteers in Austin are raising $4,850 for a community fridge at the Maple community hall.

For five years the neighborhood has asked for a community fridge. This year a group of 23 volunteers, including local mothers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Maple community hall, but no funding.
We have received donated tools, and the remaining cost is $4,850.
It will serve about 225 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in June and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $4,850 goes:
• Materials: $3,850
• Permits and inspections: $310
• Safety equipment and signage: $300
• Tools hire and delivery: $390
