A community fridge: a volunteer-led effort in Athens
A community-led a community fridge at Freedom Park that will serve 546 neighbors.
🇬🇷 Athens, Attica, Greece918 views
For five years the neighborhood has asked for a community fridge. This year a group of 24 volunteers, including the neighborhood football club, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Freedom Park, but no funding.
We have received donated soil and plants, and the remaining cost is $1,200.
It will serve about 546 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in December and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $1,200 goes:
• Materials: $750
• Permits and inspections: $145
• Safety equipment and signage: $150
• Tools hire and delivery: $155
Whatever you can give, even just sharing this page, means a lot.

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Panagiotis.
The list at the bottom is the whole picture. materials is the biggest at $750. It helps to be asked.
Best of luck, Panagiotis. I hope things turn around soon. Blessings.
Is there anything that isn't money that would help Panagiotis?
Thank you. If you're in Athens I'll say if something practical comes up. For now sharing this is great. It helps to be asked.
Thinking of you. Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. Greetings from Kasarani.
So sorry you're going through this, Panagiotis. This could happen to any of us. Love from Rio de Janeiro

Take care. Your post was clear and honest. Wish I lived closer to Surrey so I could bring a meal. Love from Nakuru.
