I live with a rare neuromuscular condition. My occupational therapist at the Calgary Rehabilitation Centre has assessed me and recommended a braille note-taker. The public scheme doesn't cover it, and the quote from the supplier is $8,600.
My current equipment is 15 years old and keeps breaking, which has confined me to home for 10 weeks.
With the right equipment I could attend work interviews. It would change my everyday life and my ability to work from home.
We've applied to two charities already and received small contributions; this campaign covers the rest.
Funds go toward the equipment, delivery, fitting and a year of servicing.
Where the $8,600 goes:
• braille note-taker: $8,000
• Fitting and training sessions: $240
• Delivery and set-up: $170
• First-year servicing plan: $190
