I live with low vision from retinitis pigmentosa. My occupational therapist at Mérida General Hospital has assessed me and recommended a braille note-taker. The public scheme doesn't cover it, and the quote from the supplier is $2,550.
My current equipment is 8 years old and keeps breaking, which has confined me to home for 12 weeks.
With the right equipment I could go outside without waiting for someone to push. It would change my everyday life and my ability to work from home.
We've applied to two charities already and received small contributions; this campaign covers the rest.
I'll pay the supplier directly from the funds, and I'll post a photo once the equipment is delivered.
Where the $2,550 goes:
• Fitting and training sessions: $90
• braille note-taker: $2,400
• First-year servicing plan: $60
