Weekly meals for families facing hunger in Durgapur
The Open Hands Pantry pantry in Durgapur is running low just as demand rises; $350 will stock it for 7 weeks.

Since 2023, our volunteer team has run Open Hands Pantry every Wednesday from the back of the old library basement. We started with 25 families, and now we feed 301 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 55% this winter, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 7 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Durgapur market and keep every receipt.
Each $5 feeds a family of four for a week.
All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs.
Where the $350 goes:
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $135
• Refrigeration and electricity: $50
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $165
