Weekly meals for families facing hunger in Boston
The Open Hands Pantry pantry in Boston is running low just as demand rises; $3,050 will stock it for 10 weeks.

Since 2019, our volunteer team has run Open Hands Pantry every Saturday from the back of a school canteen. We started with 30 families, and now we feed 337 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 55% this school holidays, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 9 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Boston market and keep every receipt.
Each $40 feeds a family of four for a week.
All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs.
Where the $3,050 goes:
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $1,350
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $1,150
• Baby formula and diapers: $185
• Refrigeration and electricity: $365
