Weekly meals for elderly neighbors in Newcastle
The Community Pantry pantry in Newcastle is running low just as demand rises; $3,050 will stock it for 6 weeks.
🇦🇺 Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia1,485 views
Since 2022, our volunteer team has run Community Pantry every Sunday from the back of a borrowed garage. We started with 8 families, and now we feed 193 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 53% this school holidays, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 19 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Newcastle market and keep every receipt.
Each $30 feeds a family of four for a week.
All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs.
Where the $3,050 goes:
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $650
• Refrigeration and electricity: $350
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $2,050
I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.

Sending good thoughts, Tammy. It takes guts to ask. Well done. It's not much but it's yours. Blessings.
Keep going, Tammy. I hope things turn around soon. Take care.
Hang in there, Tammy. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. I have a 9 year old who wants to send good wishes too. Take care.
Hope things get better soon, Tammy. Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. Sent it to 10 people at work.
I hope things turn around soon. Thinking of Newcastle
good luck. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. My neighbor in Oakland donated after I showed her your page.
