Weekly meals for elderly neighbors in Luxor
The Open Hands Pantry pantry in Luxor is running low just as demand rises; $450 will stock it for 12 weeks.

Since 2022, our volunteer team has run Open Hands Pantry every Thursday from the back of the old library basement. We started with 21 families, and now we feed 122 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 47% this winter, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 7 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Luxor market and keep every receipt.
Each $5 feeds a family of four for a week.
I'll post the weekly shopping receipts and a photo of the shelves each Sunday.
Where the $450 goes:
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $280
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $75
• Baby formula and diapers: $70
• Refrigeration and electricity: $25
Ask me anything below before you decide. I'd rather you were sure.
