Since 2019, our volunteer team has run the Second Helping every Thursday from the back of the old library basement. We started with 20 families, and now we feed 378 each week. Donations have dropped by about 30% this rainy season, while the line has grown every single week. We rely on volunteers - 11 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Chicago market and keep every receipt. Each $55 feeds a family of four for a week. All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs. Where the $3,800 goes: • Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $2,250 • Fresh vegetables and fruit: $710 • Baby formula and diapers: $620 • Refrigeration and electricity: $220 If you're reading this, thank you. - Edgardo

Rooting for you. More neighborhoods should do this. My neighbor in Riverside donated after I showed her your page.

Great idea, hope you get there. Put this on a community board in Bhopal this morning. Thinking of Chicago.
